What Students are Saying about Susan's
Visits:

I love my visits to schools
and the opportunities they give me for
connecting with young readers. I am delighted to work with
teachers, media specialists, librarians or administrators to set up a
visit that will best meet the needs and interests of that school.

What
Educators and Parents Are
Saying About Susan's
Visits:
Thank you so much for
visiting with the students at Grace School. All
of our students were captivated by your presentation that allowed them
to enter the world of writing. Both our principal and our teachers were
delighted with the enthusiasm that you built for writing in our
students.

From our first
conversations about a visit to our school in connection with our annual
Book Festival, Susan was a joy to deal with. She worked with a
number of classes and age groups and provided a reading from her book
for an all-school event. In every venue, she managed to connect
with the kids, hold their attention and gain their respect.
As a former teacher
myself, I appreciated the innovative curriculum she had designed, which
prompted even the most reluctant writers to create imaginative,
exciting, often funny story ideas. The exercise also provided a
showcase for some downright exceptional writing from the more talented
students.
One telling demonstration
of the positive feelings she had engendered came at the end of the day,
when a group of younger students stopped her in the hall for a group
hug. She was a hit with students, teachers, and administrators
alike.

Susan was able to engage
our kids to a level where many were disappointed that the lesson came
to an end. Some students continued writing into their weekly
journal assignments, because they needed to resolve the good ideas she
was able to foster.

Thank you for providing
our students with an opportunity to meet and learn from a published
author.
They returned to the
classroom with a high level of motivation and were
excited and ready to continue writing. Some of them were
discussing
the answers that Susan provided to their questions with amazing clarity
and understanding. It’s a good thing!

Thanks so much for your visit to
Visitation. The highest praise I can
give you is how you held 36 fourth and fifth graders' attention for one
hour; I
have yet to do that!
You truly inspired us.

Having Susan come to our room was a real
gift. Through examples and direction, she was able to elicit
clever, imaginative creations from our children. Her story
starters and approach helped our students create wonderful beginnings
to stories during that period, but prodded their thinking to do better
writing in future journal stories as well.
